Camera
| In deutschland 83 the camera is stationary a lot of the time and it is always dark and grim. Never making much movement in their camera work. Deutschland '83 uses the camera to show the bleak and desperate setting of the show in the Cold War. Scenes in the West are always more vibrant than that of the oppressive Eastern German scenes. The camera is a mere viewer in the audience. | ||||
Sound
| The sound design in Rome is clean and processed in ways that give the actions of the characters have power but the strength of the blows are behind the blade which are carried by sound design that are quite generic and bleak. The sound design of the show is done by experts who provide good sound design for its time. | The sound design in Deutschland '83 is incredibly good as it is is provided by Andreas Drost, Gregor Junghaus, Jorg Klinkenberg, Wolfgang Liebig, Thomas Neumann, Linus Nicki, Andreas Walther, Ian Wright, Frider Wohlfarth, Jorg Klaussner, Christoph Oertel, Oliver Grafe, Jan Meyerdierks, Lukas Spielvogel who have done a stellar job which gives the show its oppressive atmosphere. The theme song being an absolute classic when paired with the intro. | |||
Editing
| The editing in Rome is simple and mechanical. offering interesting views into the world of the show without sacrificing the grand scale of it all. The editing makes sense to the plot and how it flows from scene to scene with reason. The editing in Rome is good at creating a good sense of location and atmosphere for the scene. | Deutschland 83 is a show with dull and bland editing which compliments the boring and depressive hues that both the scenes and moods are coloured in. The phrases in the form are broken english as they are generic and flat as common shots yet the framing and mood makes them feel more than they actually are. Seeming alike in the shows' depressive tone. | |||
Lighting
| The lighting of the show, Rome, is made up of bright lighting. Every scene seems to be shot at either the golden hour, when light is softest or when the light is brightest in the day. The much more brighter and "optimistic" tone is more founded for the American production and directing that shot the series. The bright lighting helps emphasis the grand nature of the characters or set. | On the other hand, Deutschland is a much more darker show literally as the shots are made up many greys and blues while in East Germany where a lot of the scenes are shot. The lighting in the West German scenes are bright with eighties yellow which is drab and as derpressive as any black could be. To seperate the two sides of the wall, the show gave the shots a tonal difference so that we know where we are but reminding us both are depressive scenes. | |||
Scripting
| The script for Rome makes use of grand imagery and latin proverb alike phrases that make the show seem out of time but still relatable. The characters speak in shakespearean phrases and terms, lending to it an edge that makes it gently powerful and prismic. The show falls into pits as the writing does struggle to keep up at times. A personal favourite exchange in the show is between Caeser and Lucius Vorenus discussing why Lucius didn't capture Pompey when he could. Lucius: he was broken. there was water in his eyes and dirt on his clothes. Caeser: he could be broken like a dacian catamite but he is just as dangerous! | The writing of the show, Deutschland 83, uses German for their language as the characters are all German. This makes non-German viewers more lenient with the phrases and themes as they can't criticize what they don't understand. The lines from the show are clinic and hypodermic in their uniformly cleanliness. The speak in governmental terms unless outside of their place of work. |

Deutschland '83 is a serial made by Anna Winger and Joerg Winger through RTL and Sundance TV whose script was written by Anna Winger and whose episodes were directed by Edward Berger and Samira Radsi. This show was released in June 17th 2015 and follows the character of Martin Rauch, played by Jonas Nay, through the Cold War East and West Germany settings where for one season of eight episodes. The serial is part of the spy thriller genre but in the Cold War Subgenre and was later followed by Deutschland '86 and '89 in 2016 and 2021. The story follows Martin Rauch, a East German border guard made to go over the border as a spy for the Eastern Bloc by his Aunt, Lenora Rauch, who works as a handler for the Stasi. Martin is soon made to replace the aide-de-camp to the Western German general to find out about Able Archer, a mere war-game, which the East had assumed was a real attack plan, leaving Martin in charge of the world's fate. The season ends open ended, not knowing Martin's fate until the next show of Deutschland '86. The characters are all open ended and varied, Anna Winger refusing to make the East Germans mere mustache twirling villains but makes each member unique. From Martin, is the typical main character who works for good, who got caught smuggling illegal books to Tobias Tischbier, the Gay professor who leads the West German Peace Movement as a front to his true position as a Stasi spy for the East. The camera shots are bland to accompany both Eastern and Western Germany which are both in disrepair and falling apart. Some popular scenes are; when Martin goes out with his cover girlfriend to a club held in an bombed apartment with colourful characters wandering about or the scenes where Martin reads secret messages during his Able Archer training, standing in a fog covered field reading notes from a capsule in a tree.
The television series Rome, from HBO, was their highest budget show until Game of Thrones which replaced it and is a historian drama set in Caeser's Italy that ran for two seasons from 28 August 2005 to the 25th march 2007. The show is linear and falls into the same tropes that other shows do but its unwavering commitment to making a historically realistic show, depicting Caeser and his rise to power and descent into the grave, make it an excellent watch. With grand battle scenes like that of The Battle of Philipi where Brutus's army takes on the third triumvirates' army in one last fight during the second season. Rome follows, mainly, the two characters of Lucius Vorenus played by Kevin McKid and Titus Pullo played by Ray Stevenson. Watching their friendship go from that of commander and commanded to that of friends. Through banter, battle and borders they make their way closer to each other. The two characters are soldiers in Julius Caeser's army, Caeser played by Ciaran Hinds who would later go on to Game of Thrones as the king beyond the wall. The show has one of the best costumes that perfectly portray Roman wear and battle gear during the time that Caeser ruled. An exciting shot from the film is from The Battle of Philipi where Cassius, played by Guy Henry, hides beneath his soldiers' shields in a testudo formation from the oncoming arrows that land in shields, arms and eyes. For this episode, the show was nominated for an Emmy for outstanding visual effects.
My Drama is the movie End of Evangelion by Hideki Anno and is the alternative ending to the television show "Neon Genesis Evangelion." The film is an animated psychological thriller which follows the protagonist of Shinji as he blankly gets pulled around to where the plot needs him to be till he soon loses his mind and takes to insanity. The plot involves the attack on NERV headquarters by the rival human faction while the fate of the world is decided underneath the headquarters. With Adam, the fruit of life, being kept underground till Rei chooses to take over him and become his host and initiating the third impact. The show has excellent choreography with the animated characters, especially in the fight scene between Asuka and the mass production evangelions. The superb sound design makes every hit feel meaty and every clang of blade seem as powerful as life itself. The great sound design also extends to the sounds of the inhuman characters like the mass production Evas. Their mechanised howl, matched with their broken steel grin, make them the stuff of nightmares. The voice acting is powerful and terrifying as, most famously, they scream and cry in ways that are impossible. The final scenes of the movie being those of abject beauty and terror as the Third Impact wipes out life through Lilith and Shinji goes into his mind to confront his demons till he decides on whether man should continue or not.The Show is full of great shots like those during the Asuka and Mass Production Evas fight, where for two shots, we see her engulfed in flame or surrounded by such. Another powerful shot is when Lilith comes out of the earth to start the third impact, slowly slipping out of the world.
